Status and activity definitions
Definitions for authorisations, permission lines, status evidence and Ape Law activity labels used in the tracker.
Record and status terms
- Active, source stated
- The source explicitly states active and Ape Law normalises it as active. The label is tied to the collection date, not a continuing guarantee.
- Authorised or approved, source stated
- The source explicitly states an authorisation, approval or licence value that is kept distinct from the active label.
- Status not stated
- The reviewed source did not state a current status. This is not the same as inactive, withdrawn or unlicensed.
- Register evidence
- The record was present in an official register or regulator publication when collected, but presence alone may not establish current status.
- Permission scope
- The activities, instruments, limitations and conditions that define what an authorisation permits. Users must read the regulator's complete current record.
- Authorisation
- A regulator-scoped licence, permission, registration or reviewed approval record represented as one tracker record.
- Permission line
- A source activity or service line associated with an authorisation. For some regimes it is selected because the underlying record also contains a virtual-asset instrument qualifier.
- Activity label
- A simplified Ape Law category mapped from source permission wording so records can be compared across regulators.
- Official announcement
- A first-party regulator announcement used as status evidence in a limited reviewed case. It is labelled separately from a live register status.
- Domain relationship
- A reviewed link between a domain and a legal entity, brand or group. It does not expand the authorisation scope.

How to use a label
Use the label to find potentially comparable records, then read the adjacent source permission lines and official regulator record. Similar labels across two regimes do not mean the legal permissions are equivalent.
